Following last year’s popular Festival Dance we are delighted to welcome ceilidh band ‘Skylarking’. This is an evening of dance and fun for all the family and friends.
Skylarking is Sarah Holmes, Steve Wiles, Alex Bartholomew and ‘the rhythm section, a computer driven sound system providing the beat to the players’ melodies to get everyone dancing.
Sarah is a classically trained oboist, playing all the band’s wind instruments. She is the proud owner of a Gaita, a Spanish bagpipe and a set of French bagpipes, not forgetting a saxophone.
Steve Wiles, the band’s caller plays the melodeon. This is a 3 row 18 bass instrument by Bernard Loffet. He also uses Acid Music software to create the percussion backing tracks for the rhythm section.
Alex Bartholomew is a classically trained violinist and has played in several youth chamber and symphony orchestras. She is the proud owner of a 250 year old German violin that she will play at tonight’s event.
Throughout the evening ‘the rhythm section’ will be using its programs and music sampling hardware selecting and combining elements that enhance the melodies played by Sarah, Steve and Alex, creating Skylarking’s special sound.
So, come along, just follow caller Steve Wiles’ directions and dance and have a wonderful evening.
